DD Council Grant Announcement; Technical Assistance Consultant Sought
The Disability Housing Network was recently awarded $50,000 from the Development Disability (DD) Council to support the implementation of a technical assistance project focusing on a DHN-developed self assessment tool for housing corporations. The self assessment tool covers topics such as financial management, board governance, and planning. The grant lasts through June 2011 and is due to be renewed through June 2012.

The grant funds a contract position to provide technical assistance to housing corporations. Please read the attached description and forward it to those who might be interested. Phone calls and questions should be directed to Steve Farrell.

Overview of co-insurance
Steve McPeake of North Coast Community Homes recently forwarded the following regarding co-insurance, and suggested it be shared through the listserv.

Both NCCH and Creative Housing insure over 600 properties with Dan Overmeyer of the Willis Group insurance company in Columbus.  We have been with Dan for many years and he understands the unique nature of our homes and tenant population.  He forwarded to me an explanation of co-insurance which all of our members should be aware.   We have been taking bids from various insurance carriers and some either added or deducted this feature which has a direct impact, not only on coverage, but the premiums.   Depending how providers/housing corporations property/casualty insurance is structured, they might not be adequately covered  in a loss.

Group Purchasing Option to benefit Ohio ARC

DHN member Foundation for the Challenged recently approached DHN with a group purchasing option available to any nonprofit in Ohio. Empowered Group Purchasing (EGP) is designed to benefit people with developmental disabilities and those who support them. This purchasing organization functions like a discount club without walls and can save DHN members hundreds to thousands of dollars annually on their costs for certain goods and services.

Review the attached document for more information.
